How To Get That Workout In As a Work From Home Mom of 2

Plan ahead

Follow a program, or have a workout video on deck . Don’t waste time wondering what to do when the opportunity to workout presents itself.

Get it in as early as possible

I love me a good morning workout (preferably before the kids wake up) but realistically in a house with two littles, nothing ever goes as planned. This is why I aim to get my workout in as early as I can, which allows for other attempts to get a workout in throughout the day.

  • For example: I attempt a 5 am workout and one of the boys wakes up early, or was up throughout the night so I choose to sleep in (very common) then I roll with it and aim for naptime session! If naptime doesn’t go smoothly, I always have the opportunity for a workout after the kids go to sleep. This is the absolute worst case scenario- because let’s be real, ya girl prefers to be in bed by 8.

And sometimes sleep wins this battle, and that is okay 🙂

Put that baby equipment to use

Listen, sometimes you just aren’ going to get the luxury of a uninterrupted workout. Once I fully accepted that and stopped using the kids as an excuse, I learned to be resourceful and make it happen. More days now are spent getting creative on keeping these little guys entertained so I can get some quick movement in.

Here is a list of the baby items that have allowed me to get a workout in WITH the kids:

  • Thule jogging stroller: #1 lifesaver here. I had the single after Kayden was born. I loved it so much that we upgraded to the double version HERE when I got pregnant with Collin. This stroller truly is worth the investment IMO. I use this daily for walks or runs with both of the boys. When all else fails, strap the kids up and get moving. A walk, jog, or lunges behind a stroller may not have been the lifting session or peloton class you had in mind, but it’s movement!
  • Activity center/water table: set it up and get some reps! When both boys were small enough, I would use THIS activity center to keep them entertained and contained to once spot! Don’t be afraid to move some bands or weights to the backyard. You will be happy you did it!
  • Baby carrier: The holy grail for when a baby is fighting naptime. Do yourself a favor and USE IT. Strap your baby in and search some workout videos on youtube for baby wearing. Baby likely will get a nap in and mama can get her workout on! Wins for everyone! My favorite baby carrier has been the Ergobaby Omno 360 HERE. It faces all directions and even has the ability to put baby on your back!
